A further 5 miles brings us to the world famous Turnberry Golf Club where the 2009 Open Championship was held. There are 2 main courses here, the Ailsa and the Kintyre, which will cost anywhere between £70 and £190 per round for non residents, depending on the time of year and the course played. There is also the 9 hole Arran course which is only £25-£35 a round and was designed to allow the professionals of the Colin Montgomerie Links Golf Academy to pass on some of Montgomerie`s insights.
Another half hour or so North along the coast brings us to Prestwick Golf Club where the Open Championship originated and was first played in 1860, Prestwick St Nicholas which is also over 100 years old, and Prestwick St Cuthberts which has been open since 1963 at its current location. A few miles more takes us to the famous Royal Troon, founded in 1878, and then onto Kilmarnock Barassie golf club which was opened in 1887.
